24 June 2008 Concerned about soaring food prices, the Gauteng Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Environment (DACE) yesterday announced that it will invest almost half of its R354 million Budget for the year into agricultural projects.

Gauteng Campaign to keep Gauteng clean takes another turn
The Gauteng government is planning to take the litter-free campaign to the next level after its launch a year ago. All the municipalities in the province will be participating in the project by launching the long walk to rid the province of litter and grime.

Today is World Environment Day
The country is gearing up to make sure World Environment Day has lasting impact. A number of events have been planned throughout today to help make South Africans aware of the importance of 'going green'. While government says it is working on creating a national climate change policy for the country, South Africans are being urged to take up the issue as individuals.
The World Wildlife Fund is launching its 'Be a Superhero' campaign, with a website full of hints and tips. The fund's Carolyn Cramer says they have taken away all the excuses for not going green. Meanwhile Ekurhuleni Mayor Duma Nkosi together with Miss Earth SA, will lead a planting of seeds in Katlehong and sign the first Green Pledge to conserve natural resources. The Gauteng government is launching the long walk to fight litter campaign in an effort to rid the province of trash and grime. |

Gauteng Premier responds to the DA
Gauteng Premier Mbhazima Shilowa has responded to the Democratic Alliance's request for a commission of inquiry into the Gauteng Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Environment.
After considering the allegations from the DA and having looked at the comprehensive response from the Department, the Premier is satisfied that there is no basis for a commission of inquiry.
