MEC Nkosi to visit schools, meet Sebokeng communities

In committing itself to promoting quality education, the Provincial Executive Committee has deployed members to various regions to visit schools and meet communities on 13 January 2010. This is an effort by the Gauteng Provincial Government to improve attendance, learning and teaching in schools and engage communities as well.

Roads and Transport MEC Bheki Nkosi is scheduled to visit schools in the Emfuleni Local Municipality as part of the programme developed by the province. The MEC will visit Fundulwazi Secondary School as well as Atlehang and Siviwe Primary Schools to do inspections, meet schools management teams. He will also attend a meeting with various school governing bodies to look into areas to improve the state of education in these and other schools. The MEC together with local political leaders will then attend a public meeting ( Imbizo ) at Saul Tsotetsi Sports Complex where they are expected to listen to problems and challenges faced by communities.

The objectives of these visits by MEC's are to inculcate and foster a culture of parents' participation in their children's education, to offer support and encouragement to teachers in doing their work as well as ensuring that learners are punctual, in class and ready to learn.
